Class of 2012,
Welcome to the Wake Forest Alumni Family!

On Monday, May 21, the Alumni Association welcomed over 1,000 of its newest graduates to the Alumni Family. The day boasted picture-perfect, albeit warm, North Carolina weather as family and friends gathered to watch loved-ones walk across the stage and celebrate hard-earned achievements. Charlie Ergen, father of 2012 graduate Kerry Ergen and chairman of DISH Network, gave the commencement address. He shared his own experiences as he embarked on his professional career, while imparting sage wisdom from childhood favorites such as Matilda, The Cat in the Hat, and The Runaway Bunny.

Commencement 2012

The “single best piece of advice” he told graduates he could give them is to “never stop learning”, for as the The Cat in the Hat says, “the more that you learn, the more places you”ll go!” Ergen reflected on how his time at Wake Forest not only educated him, but taught him how to learn, paving the way for his success in the business world.

As we welcome our newest additions to the Wake Forest Alumni Family, we wish them success wherever they are headed – whether that is graduate school, abroad, or the working world. We hope that they will continue to learn, to explore, to take risks, and to carry the spirit of Pro Humanitate with them. We are fortunate to have an expansive and warm alumni family that will be there to support, to challenge, and to encourage them as they leave Mother, So Dear. The Alumni Office is here to facilitate these relationships, keep the Wake Forest ties strong, and to, as Charlie Ergen put it, “always be a place you can come home to.”
