Volunteer for Dining with the Deacs in 2013
The Alumni Office is in search of Winston-Salem alumni looking to reconnect with their alma mater by volunteering for the Dining with the Deacs program. Each month, several Winston-Salem alumni from a variety of professional and academic backgrounds host a dinner in their homes for up to eight selected students, with a discussion centered on a topic of the host’s choice. Alumni are encouraged to invite other Wake Forest friends to join in. This program presents an unique opportunity for local alumni to give back to Wake Forest through serving as a resource to current students.

Want to know more? Shelley Holden (’03) hosted a dinner in October 2012 and shared a little about her experience with us.
Why did you host a Dining with the Deacs dinner? It is a way for David [my husband] and me to support this school we love so much and it is a way to connect with the students there now and stay involved.
What was your favorite part about having students over to your home? Hearing their experiences and what Wake Forest means to them and realizing that over time, the students Wake Forest attracts are still very special people. Also, it was a little bit of reliving our time there!
Did you learn anything from the students? How incredibly smart they are and the many ways they are giving back through their academics pursuits and their free time. David and I were so impressed and it makes you so proud of Wake Forest.
What advice would you give to other WFU students? You are in a very special place and make the most of your time there and in Winston-Salem. Foster your relationships with your professors and other Wake Foresters and keep in touch with them. You are making lifelong connections.
What do you remember most about your time at Wake Forest? The People! From my very first day on campus, I met some of the most wonderful people and many are still friends I keep in touch with today. Wake Forest is really about the special people that teach, work and attend school there.
