Fighting Childhood Hunger
One in 5 American children lives without consistent access to adequate food. For these children and their families, summer can be especially hard, as they lose access to the school breakfasts and lunches that they rely upon.
On May 9, 2015, Demon Deacons around the country re-imagined Pro Humanitate Day and showed the world that #GoodWearsBlack. Uniting under this social media hashtag, we saw over 850 participants participate in Pro Humanitate Day with a 355% increase in registrants from 2014. Serving 26 non-profit hunger organizations, this was the first participation in a Wake Forest event for 18% of participants, one of the largest percentages of first-time participants ever seen for a Wake Forest event.
In total, 1,230 hours of time were spent volunteering and 2,190 meals were donated. Pro Humanitate Day 2015 marked the beginning of a new era of serving the community for Wake Forest Alumni everywhere.
We look forward to April 9, 2016 as we will again show the world that #GoodWearsBlack on Pro Humanitate Day.
