Disaster Relief

Dear fellow Wake Foresters,

Homecoming and Reunion Weekend was a time of sharing joyful memories, laughter, and fun. If you live along coastal areas in the South or in the Caribbean, however, homecoming may not have had that same meaning. Americans affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria are returning from shelters to find their home and belongings ruined by floodwaters.

In the spirit of Pro Humanitate, we invite you to participate in efforts by Wake Foresters to assist with Disaster Relief. Below is a list of vetted opportunities to assist members of the Deacon family in their recovery efforts.

As a Joplin resident who was involved in our recovery from the May 2011 Tornado, I have witnessed firsthand the relief and gratitude survivors feel when they receive support from caring folks across the country. Please help us as we respond to survivors when they need us most.

Thank you,

Jane Cage

She is head of social impact at Dropbox, which is responding by organizing employee volunteering, raising funds for local nonprofits, delivering meals to first responders, and providing books and blankets for children in shelters. If you or your company are supporting relief efforts in northern California, please let us know by emailing alumni@nullwfu.edu and share how others may partner with you. And even if you’re not in California, here’s how you can help: Support for the victims of the Northern California Wildfires.
